Salted egg yolk chicken recipe

This has been my comfort food lately: salted egg with (either fish, breaded chicken or Prawns). Salted egg yolk sauce is homemade. Recipe below

For 6 pax
Ingredients:
– Salted duck eggs x 8 (just the yolk)
– Chopped garlic 2-3 cloves
– Butter 2-3 tbsps
– Evaporated milk x 1.5 tins
– Salted egg yolk powder x 2tbsps
– Curry leaves x 10 – 12 stalks
– Chilli padi x10 pieces chopped
– Salt (pinch)
– Secret ingredient: cheese x 2 slices or shredded

Instructions:
1) Melt butter. Once melted, add chopped garlic
2) Add evaporated milk followed by salted egg yolk that has been mashed. Add salted egg powder too.
3) Cook for a few minutes. Scoop the salted egg and sauce and put into the blender
4) Once the eggs have been blended, pour it back into the cooking pan.
5) Add curry leaves and chopped chilli.
6) Once the sauce starts to bubble, add cheese (shredded or sliced). The sauce will start to thicken and you get a creamy texture.

There you go! You can throw in seafood or anything inside. I usually use instant breaded chicken, put in the oven and then pour the sauce. Easy peasy. ✌

Ghost pepper Daebak chicken noodles

Omg. After searching for this like crazy in Johor and KL, eventually I found it in Singapore haha. People all around the world have been challenging themselves to try the Ghost pepper chicken noodles and deemed this one of the spiciest so far — which is why, I had to try it myself since I love spicy food.

The noodles are black in color – I don’t know, I guess they try to make it look menacing even before you cook it? Or maybe, it’s to mask the fiery red color once you mix in the sauce. 👿

The first two bites went okay.. But then it hits you. Hard. If you have an ulcer in your mouth, seriously good luck.. It burns the whole mouth and my ears were temporarily clogged. My throat was also burning, eyes crying like I got smacked and nose dripping like a tap. Best solution is to chug down milk which thankfully I had it at hand.

I have to admit – spiciness aside – the noodles were very tasty. You can actually taste the chicken flavor so it’s not all about the noodles being spicy. Basically, you’re not burning your mouth for nothing. You can still enjoy the noodles.. Of course at the expense of your tastebuds dying.

Would I try it again? Hell yeah! I actually liked it. The spiciness went away in less than half an hour for me so it wasn’t that bad.. I’m just not sure what my bowels will say about this tomorrow 🤔

TFF Chicken rice

Oh yes.. It’s halal again! I think it took close to a month (?) for them to get their cert renewed but yesterday the halal cert is back. The queue is always long at this stall because their chicken rice is excellent. The rice is sooo fragrant and chicken is juicy. At the price of $3.50, it’s a steal. It’s difficult to find meals costing less than $4 nowadays so this is a rare find.

Pasta Zanmai

Pasta Zanmai is a Japanese – Italian Fusion restaurant which I tried recently. I usually eat at their sister restaurant (Sushi Zanmai) so I imagine their food would be just as affordable and delicious.

I ordered the seafood kimuchi which I am guessing is pasta in kimchi seafood broth. Both of my friends ordered the sirloin steak and seafood pie.

For RM 19 at a restaurant, I think the price is affordable as there are no taxes charged. I have been to cafés where each item on the menu costing more than RM 20. The sirloin steak is RM 18 and seafood pie is RM 16.

I find the menu a bit limited — I guess as compared to Sushi Zanmai which I was spoilt for choice. Nevertheless, I might come back again to try other pasta dishes on their menu.

Seafood shovel – Jom makan bbq

We came back to @jommakanbbqseafood (4th time for us and countless times for my sister) for their shovel seafood. When we were there the last time, someone ordered the shovel seafood and we saw how they were literally served in a shovel. My mom said, That’s rude. Lol. But we decided to try it anyway because food at this restaurant does not disappoint.

We ordered crayfish, crab, scallops, lala, Prawns and squid in two separate sauces – creamy parmesan garlic and sambal. We also ordered fried and steamed mantou, salted egg tofu and Chinese fried rice on the side.

Food came in a shovel and served to us on banana leaves with nachos chips on top. Love the cheesy sauce especially!  Everything was tasty and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

I must also commend the staff for being attentive to customers and are very friendly. We were celebrating my sister’s birthday and they brought complimentary ice cream and complimentary fruits even if you’re not celebrating. Everybody sang for her and it was so sweet to see other customers joining in. Made the occasion extra special. Family friendly environment.

Total costs? $150 for all the above-mentioned food and drinks. This was for 6 adults and 2 children. I think we will keep coming back to try other dishes.

Pure maple syrup 😍

Pure maple syrup 😍 The maple FLAVORED syrup usually taste more sweet than it does of maple. But this pure maple syrup is not as sweet and the maple is not overwhelming.

I wanted to make pancakes but decided I was too lazy to make some. So I spread butter on bread, cooked it on pan until it is brown and slightly crispy. Put sliced bananas, drizzle maple syrup and chia seeds. Simple yet so delightful! 😋

Deanna’s prawn noodles

Tried the famous prawn noodles (with clams) at the Bedok branch (Mukmin). Love the broth and fresh seafood in one bowl of goodness 😍. You can also choose big Prawns if you prefer to go big haha. Best part is that I ate this while it was raining outside so it’s was comfort food when it was gloomy. Would definitely recommend people to try this!

Desserts review: Goodies from Canada

Snacks review: I’m doing a review on 5 items (okay, I lumped Aero chocolates together hehe):

1) Feuile d’érable maple syrup cookies
– Love love this one so much that I had to hide them from my nephew and niece before they gobble everything up. The maple syrup isn’t sweet, just a hint of it. And the cream in between isn’t overwhelmingly rich like some biscuits do. I’m literally eating these biscuits one bite at a time, savoring every bit of it.

2) Hershey’s Cookies and Cream
I’m not a big fan of anything cookies and cream but OMG was this was so good! I thought it had only chocolates inside but there were cookies and cream cookie bits which looked like cat treats and Lil balls of pretzels too. It was love at first bite. And will also be kept hidden in my secret vault of sni where kids are not allowed to open.

3) Aero (dark, dark mint, truffle milk choc, truffle dark cherries, minis)
Reminds me of my time in Australia where I used to stock up on Aero chocolates. I didn’t try the flavored ones like dark mint or dark there. Overall I like the chocolates but it was familiar rather than something completely new to me.

4) Reese Peanut buttercups
Tried this a few times before and you can get it in most countries.. I like the balance of salty and sweet for this. But a bit rich when eaten both in one seating.

5) Nestlé Coffee Crisps.
My least favorite chocolate. I was not able to taste coffee, not even a hint of it. It was just sweet and milky and not exciting enough for my tastebuds. Did I say sweet already?

Handmade oyster mee sua

Handmade oyster mee sua 😋. Mee sua is made of wheat flour which thickens the soup when it cooks. Topped with juicy oysters, shredded chicken, cilantro and of course the sambal, it is slurping good! I always save the oysters for the last few bites and savour its creamy, slightly chewy texture. And of course, the sambal gives the dish a good kick to the palette. 😋

I also like the XXL spicy chicken which I think it’s a meal on its own. It is too much food if you only want to ‘munch’ on something😅.

Aburi Teriyaki Don

I tend to gravitate towards food that looks out of the ordinary. Not sure if it is always the wise choice especially when I have a sensitive stomach. Japanese cuisine is one of my favorites and I cannot NOT at least walk through the sushi section just to see what is on sale. I saw this on the shelf the other day and it took me awhile to decide whether I should try this or stick to the familiar option which is my sashimi.

I grabbed the box, and quickly paid for it lest I change my mind. This is Aburi teriyaki Don. White shell clams on a bed of rice, with seaweed and pureed eggs on the side. I did not like the sweet sauce on the side.. Not sure what it is but definitely did not taste like teriyaki. The clams were chewy and it has a light taste.. Not like how clams should taste? I could not taste the teriyaki. Not sure if I would buy it but no regrets trying it! ✌🏼
